3rd Solo Trip for the Pete~Man 9/4/17

Stream and Bridge Crossings

There were many trips in between these solo trips, but for fear of boring the life out of people I decided to just do some high light posts.. ;)

2nd Solo Trail Ride 8/27/17

Bingham Creek Bench ~ Pete's 2nd Trail Ride

8/27/17

I have been taking Pete out and ponying him up and down trails for a couple months, so he has had some exposure to these trails, but this was his 2nd time solo and he did more miles and did a truck bridge crossing.  Some steep trail traverse too, building slowly, and keeping the confidence building.

Single track trail can some times cause some anxiety in some horses, making them feel a little trapped, so I have been conscience to split his rides between trail and the road to keep him changed up .

First Ride on Trail 7/17/17

Today, marks Pete's first trail ride.

7/17/17

We had plans for the Bingham Creek Bench, but the road was closed so we turned around and went to John and Mel's gate, parked and made a phone call letting Mel know my plans, and cautiously headed out.  I decided to walk Pete up the road and let him settle a bit, and then I climbed up and he did really well. Walks out with purpose.

.

When he was first started at Josh's place everything was so new and scary, but he has changed so much.  I guess that is why I love to train, I am always amazed at the trust that can be built with time and effort.  It is so transforming, for both of us..

Day 2 on Trail ~~ 9 Miles

Day 2 ~~ Trails and Pete

Pete did better today, than yesterday, good minded and willing.

walks out, seems to like getting out and seeing the new sites.

Sporting his new saddle, which fits him really well.

9 miles, and legs are nice and tight. ;)

First Time on Trails

8 Miles and our first trail time ~~

So much for a well laid plan,,,, the heat was not to be beat today!  It was very beautiful none the less, and both ponies did very well.  Didn't think Pete was ready for the bridge today and didn't want to attempt on such a hot day.  So I back tracked a couple miles to make for 8.12 mile day.

The last few days have been unseasonably hot,  but, I decided to go ahead and ride today, figured I would head out early and try and beat the heat.

Home ~ And Fitting for a Saddle

                                                                          Pete ~.

Pete came home from 2 months of training, and due to us selling our home and moving, he had to set for 2 months, before I could really get going on riding him.  Thankfully he is a good minded guy.  Once we got settled into our tiny house and the horses moved to Linda's place the work started back up for Pete.  I found a temporary saddle, I got a plaster cast of his back and he has been being worked since he arrived.  I have started riding him and expanding his education to obstacles, and daily handling and riding, and hauling to the fair grounds too.
